ABOUT THE ARTISTS
AKIE BERMISS, with his affable disposition, glasses, and healthy do of cascading dreads that drape down to his shoulders, is unabashedly a self-professed nerd to the nth degree. Since early childhood Akie has been an obsessed science fiction aficionado. Yet he does have an artist-friendly façade and has managed to cultivate and live a double-life as a thriving music protégé, pianist, singer/songwriter, composer, arranger and emerging solo artist.
Based in Brooklyn, the daughter of ten - time Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin, MADISON MCFERRIN in December 2016, launched her solo debut EP, Finding Foundations: Vol. I, introduced her soulful take on a cappella to the world. Critics and crowds quickly took note. Leading up to her sold out show at Joe’s Pub, the New York Times remarked how her sound “shows wonderful vocal dexterity, deftly swerving from sharp, clearly enunciated staccato bursts to fluttery, free-form melismata.” After one listen, tastemaking DJ, Gilles Peterson, snatched up her standout track, “No Time to Lose,” for his Brownswood Bubblers compilation. Read about her in the Sunday NY Times: https://nyti.ms/2WnZcHF.
For NYC based trio THE RUNNING LIGHTS – Success is earned. The late nights. The countless writes and rewrites. That inexhaustible sense of fight that defines what many might mistakenly refer to as “luck." As The Running Lights prepare to release their debut EP in 2019, they acknowledge their roots; that of three boys who grew up together through, music, family, and life's ups and downs with one eye always focused on the stars.
